Root Membrane Ubiquitinome under Short-Term Osmotic Stress

Nathalie Berger et al.

Summary: This study identified 719 ubiquitinated lysine residues from 450 Arabidopsis root membrane proteins using an antibody enrichment method and mass spectrometry. The role of ubiquitination in the internalization and sorting of cargo proteins was highlighted. Additionally, it was found that ubiquitination is not primarily involved in membrane protein degradation in response to short osmotic treatment but may play a role in protein internalization.

Ethylene enhances root water transport and aquaporin expression in trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides) exposed to root hypoxia

Xiangfeng Tan et al.

Summary: This study showed that exogenous ethylene enhances leaf gas exchange and root hydraulic conductance in trembling aspen seedlings under root hypoxia. Ethylene treatment increased the abundance of PIP2 proteins and the transcript levels of PIP2;4 and PIP2;5, potentially facilitating root water transport. This suggests that ethylene plays a role in aquaporin-mediated water transport in plants exposed to root hypoxia.

Plasma membrane phylloquinone biosynthesis in nonphotosynthetic parasitic plants

Xi Gu et al.

Summary: Nonphotosynthetic holoparasites utilize flexible targeting of phylloquinone biosynthesis for plasma membrane redox signaling, with evidence of biosynthesis in Phelipanche aegyptiaca. This suggests a noncanonical role for phylloquinone in seed germination and haustorium development, with genes coexpressed with oxidoreductases involved in PM electron transport. Similar pathways are present in photoautotrophic taxa, indicating a potential ancient origin of multifunctionality.
