Interleukin-38 overexpression prevents bleomycin-induced mouse pulmonary fibrosis

Zhiwei Xu et al.

Summary: The overexpression of IL-38 in mice with bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis reduced body weight loss and inflammation, while increasing the release of anti-inflammatory cytokines, suggesting that IL-38 may be a new strategy for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis by regulating the balance of inflammatory cytokines.

The Role of Hypertension and Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone System Inhibitors in Bleomycin-induced Lung Injury

Ryujiro Hara et al.

Summary: This study identified age ≥65 years and a history of hypertension as significant risk factors for the onset of bleomycin-induced lung injury (BLI). Additionally, the administration of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors was found to reduce the occurrence of BLI in patients treated with bleomycin-containing regimens.

The effect of chelating agents on iron plaques and arsenic accumulation in duckweed (Lemna minor)

Gui-Li Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of chelating agents on arsenic accumulation in aquatic plants, as well as the uptake of phosphate and iron. The results showed that chelating agents increased As accumulation in L. minor plants by desorbing and mobilizing As from Fe plaques, while also enhancing the uptake of P and Fe. This provides a theoretical basis for using chelating agents to remediate As-contaminated waters with duckweed.

Effect of Lemna minor and Glycine max on haematological parameters, glucose level, total protein content and anti-oxidant enzyme activities in Ctenopharyngodon idella and Hypophthalmichthys molitrix

Sadar Aslam et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of Lemna minor and Glycine max on the haematological parameters and antioxidant enzyme activities in different tissues of Ctenopharyngodon idella and Hypophthalmichthys molitrix. The complete replacement of Glycine max with Lemna minor had positive effects on the blood parameters and glucose levels in C. idella when reared with H. molitrix, but showed contrary results in H. molitrix when reared separately. In terms of protein content and antioxidant enzyme activities, the use of Lemna minor led to higher levels in large and small fingerlings of C. idella in both monoculture and polyculture systems compared to those fed Glycine max diet.

Anti-Fibrotic Effects of Low Toxic Microcystin-RR on Bleomycin-Induced Pulmonary Fibrosis: A Comparison with Microcystin-LR

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the anti-fibrotic effect of microcystin-RR on bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis rodent models, attenuating pulmonary inflammation, collagen deposition, and fibrotic markers expression. Microcystin-RR treatment also reduced the number of pulmonary M2 macrophages and inhibited epithelial-mesenchymal transition and fibroblast-myofibroblast transition triggered by M2 macrophages. These findings suggest that microcystin-RR is a promising candidate for therapeutic and prophylactic strategies against idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Summary: TA293 can suppress cellular senescence, fibrosis, and inflammation in a bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis model, while mitoTA293 can exacerbate these conditions. These findings may help in developing new strategies for treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
