Global, regional, and national burden of stroke and its risk factors, 1990-2019: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

Valery L. Feigin et al.

Summary: Regularly updated data on stroke including incidence, prevalence, mortality, disability, risk factors, and trends are crucial for evidence-based care planning. The Global Burden of Diseases Study provides comprehensive measurement of these metrics. From 1990 to 2019, while age-standardized rates improved, the number of strokes and deaths increased. Low-income countries had the highest stroke-related mortality and DALY rates, with high body-mass index being the fastest-growing risk factor.

Inflammation and Oxidative Stress: Potential Targets for Improving Prognosis After Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Fan Wu et al.

Summary: Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) has a high mortality rate and often leads to long-term disability and cognitive impairment in patients. Neuroinflammation and oxidative stress are believed to play a negative role in neurofunctional deficits after SAH, with various cellular and acellular components being involved in the regulation of these processes. This review aims to provide new insights for clinical treatment to improve the prognosis of SAH by exploring the role of different components in secondary inflammation and oxidative stress.

Appraising the Accuracy of Ischaemia-Modified Albumin in Diagnosing Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Wenhua Shi et al.

Summary: Our meta-analysis on six studies found that the sensitivity of IMA in diagnosing acute stroke was 0.80, with a specificity of 0.80 and an area under the curve of 0.86. However, there was significant heterogeneity between studies, which could be explained through sensitivity analysis and meta-regression.

Summary: The study developed a novel prognostic assessment model for ischemic stroke in the Chinese hypertensive population by analyzing serum protein profiles of hypertensive patients. The model showed higher efficiency than any single marker and is valuable for prognostic evaluation.

Ischemia-Modified Albumin: Origins and Clinical Implications

Alla Shevtsova et al.

Summary: Albumin is a crucial protein in mammals, with its levels affecting overall homeostasis. Ischemic attacks can lead to changes in albumin properties, producing ischemia-modified albumin (IMA). Evaluating IMA levels through methods like the ACB test is important for clinical diagnosis and monitoring therapeutic efficacy.

Ischemia-modified albumin and fibulin-5 as diagnostic and prognostic markers for acute cerebrovascular disease

Hosna S. Elshony et al.

Summary: Background Fibulin-5 and ischemia-modified albumin levels are elevated during acute phase of cerebrovascular diseases, with fibulin-5 showing significant correlation with prognosis. These markers are positively correlated with severity of stroke, but only fibulin-5 has significant correlation with prognosis.
