Using all-atom simulations in explicit solvent to study aggregation of amphipathic peptides into amyloid-like fibrils

Sharareh Jalali et al.

Summary: This study investigates the aggregation of amphipathic peptides into amyloid-like fibrils using all-atom molecular dynamics simulations. The results show a positive correlation between experiments and simulations. Hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions play important roles in the aggregation process, with increasing temperature enhancing fibril formation and NaCl screening electrostatic interactions promoting the aggregation of certain peptides.

Combining tunable proteolytic sequences and a VEGF-mimetic peptide for the spatiotemporal control of angiogenesis within Elastin-Like Recombinamer scaffolds

Fernando Gonzalez-Perez et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated spatiotemporal control of angiogenesis using a three-dimensional model with a coaxial binary elastin-like recombinamer structure, fast and slow proteolytic hydrogels, and a VEGF-mimetic peptide (QK). The combination of fast degradation kinetics and the QK peptide guided cell infiltration and capillary formation, showing potential for controlled vascular applications in regenerative medicine.

Erlotinib Promotes Ligand-Induced EGFR Degradation in 3D but Not 2D Cultures of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Cells

Nausika Betriu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that EGFR undergoes degradation in response to erlotinib treatment in 3D-cultured cancer cells but not in classic 2D culture systems, highlighting the strong impact of dimensionality on cell drug response. The findings emphasize the importance of more physiological culture platforms to gain mechanistic insights into cell response to chemotherapy.

Clinical Use of the Self-Assembling Peptide RADA16: A Review of Current and Future Trends in Biomedicine

Sharanya Sankar et al.

Summary: RADA16 is a synthetic peptide that self-assembles into nanofiber hydrogels in an acidic environment and quickly forms a stable transparent hydrogel matrix in physiological pH. It is used as a hemostatic agent in surgical procedures to control bleeding and prevent rebleeding, with potential applications in wound healing and adhesion reduction. The unique properties of RADA16 make it an ideal candidate for tissue regeneration and controlled drug delivery in the future.
