Whipple's disease - a rare and challenging complication in a patient with Crohn's disease

Kerem Bulut et al.

Summary: This article reports a case of a young male patient with preexisting Crohn's disease who was misdiagnosed with a flare of the disease and eventually developed therapy-refractory diarrhea and opportunistic infections leading to a fatal outcome. The case highlights the importance of ruling out Whipple's disease in patients with inflammatory bowel disease before intensifying immunosuppressive therapy.

Whipple's disease and Tropheryma whipplei infections: from bench to bedside

Asma Boumaza et al.

Summary: Whipple's disease is a chronic systemic disease primarily affecting the gastrointestinal tract, caused by the Gram-positive bacterium Tropheryma whipplei. While the bacterium is ubiquitously present in the environment, the disease itself is very rare. Most cases result in bacterial clearance and seroconversion, but a few individuals are unable to clear the bacterium, leading to persistent infection. This review provides a comprehensive overview of T whipplei infection, including epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment.

Designing of a Recombinant Multi-Epitopes Based Vaccine against Enterococcus mundtii Using Bioinformatics and Immunoinformatics Approaches

Metab Alharbi et al.

Summary: Enterococcus species are important bacterial pathogens that contribute to hospital-associated infections with high mortality and morbidity rates. In this study, a multi-epitope-based vaccine against Enterococcus mundtii was designed using computational methods. Ten epitopes were selected for vaccine construct design, and the vaccine induced desirable cellular and humoral immune responses. Molecular docking and dynamic simulation results demonstrated the strong binding potency and stability of the vaccine in providing protection against the pathogen.

Summary: This study reports a high co-infection rate of Tropheryma whipplei (TW) and Helicobacter pylori (HP). To reduce the risk of morbidity, clinicians may consider TW-HP molecular screening for patients with suspected HP disease or Whipple's disease, especially those with a travel history.

A Novel Design of Multi-epitope Vaccine Against Helicobacter pylori by Immunoinformatics Approach

Junfei Ma et al.

Summary: Helicobacter pylori is a gram-negative spiral bacterium that infects half of the world's population and has been identified as a type I carcinogen. Vaccine therapy is becoming a promising immunotherapy option against H. pylori, with the potential of wider immune protection. This study provides valuable insights into epitope assembly for multi-epitope vaccines against H. pylori infection.

Summary: The study aims to design a vaccine against Klebsiella aerogenes by combining immunological and molecular docking approaches. Researchers synthesized B-cell, T-cell, and IFN-gamma epitopes of three highly antigenic proteins and utilized docking techniques to confirm the compatibility of the vaccine with receptors. Further studies are essential to confirm the safety features and immunogenicity of the vaccine.

Hamza Arshad Dar et al.

Summary: The study analyzed 34 complete genome sequences of Mycobacteroides abscessus and identified 3443 core genes through pangenome analysis. Through multi-epitope vaccine design, four potential antigenic targets were successfully identified.
