Wave-based optical coherence elastography: the 10-year perspective

Fernando Zvietcovich et al.

Summary: Optical coherence elastography (OCE), based on the propagation of mechanical waves, has made significant progress in the past ten years and has become an important technique for quantitative and nondestructive characterization of tissues. Wave-based OCE has advanced in three major aspects: novel wave excitation methods, understanding of mechanical waves in complex boundary conditions, and the development of estimators for quantitative biomechanical information. This paper summarizes the principles, techniques, applications and challenges of wave-based OCE, and discusses its potential in clinical translation research.

In vivo human corneal natural frequency quantification using dynamic optical coherence elastography: Repeatability and reproducibility

Gongpu Lan et al.

Summary: This study evaluated a novel optical coherence tomography (OCT) method for measuring corneal natural frequency in human eyes. The method demonstrated high repeatability and reliability, showing potential for quantitative assessment of corneal biomechanics. Further studies are needed to fully understand its anatomical and structural dependencies.

Summary: Through matching CCT using Scheimpflug imaging and Corvis ST technology, the study found significant differences in dynamic corneal response and tomographic parameters among FFKC, MKC, and TNC eyes with TCT <= 500μm. Some parameters showed good potential for differentiating between different eye conditions.

Biomechanical responses of the cornea after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) refractive surgery based on a finite element model of the human eye

Yinyu Song et al.

Summary: The biomechanical responses of the human cornea after SMILE procedures, especially on stress and strain, were investigated using finite element analysis. The study found that stress and strain on the corneal surfaces increased significantly after SMILE surgery, especially on the posterior surface. Incision sizes and directions had minimal influence on stress and strain.
