Zoledronic Acid-Loaded Hybrid Hyaluronic Acid/Polyethylene Glycol/Nano-Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticle: Novel Fabrication and Safety Verification

Yan Xu et al.

Summary: The study developed an organic-inorganic hybrid nanoparticle as a carrier for zoledronic acid, achieving high drug loading efficiency, sustained drug release, and good biocompatibility. In vitro and in vivo experiments showed low cytotoxicity and acceptable immune response under low-dose nanoparticle treatment, suggesting its potential application for future osteosarcoma therapeutic strategies.

Efficient and Consistent Orthotopic Osteosarcoma Model by Cell Sheet Transplantation in the Nude Mice for Drug Testing

Hongwei Wu et al.

Summary: The study established an orthotropic osteosarcoma model using a novel method of cell sheet culture and transplantation. The results demonstrated that cell sheet implantation could rapidly form tumors with high consistency in growth rate and size, suggesting its potential as an efficient approach for tumor research and reduction in mice consumption.

The Enhanced Permeability and Retention (EPR) Effect: The Significance of the Concept and Methods to Enhance Its Application

Jun Wu

Summary: Chemotherapy for human solid tumors faces challenges in delivering anticancer compounds selectively into tumor tissues to maintain effective concentration levels for a certain duration, hindering the execution of anticancer activities. Targeting therapy via the enhanced permeability and retention effect may not always be successful, as it depends on tumor type, location, blood perfusion status, and properties of macromolecular anticancer agents. Efforts to maximize the EPR effect in developing smarter nanomedicines are essential for successful clinical applications.
