Nanostructured silica-supported gold: Effect of nanoparticle size distribution and electronic state on its catalytic properties in oxidation reactions

Y. Kotolevich et al.

Summary: Modifying the silica support with La and Mg increased the interaction between metals and supports, leading to gold particles with primary size of 1 nm and different stability. Mg modification improved the stability of gold nanoparticles under various pretreatment conditions, while La modification made them highly sensitive to pretreatments. Both modifiers changed the electronic properties of supported gold, favoring the formation and stabilization of Au delta(+) states, crucial for catalytic redox processes. Gold catalysts supported on La- and Mg-modified silica showed similar performance in 1-octanol oxidation, with higher conversion rates compared to unmodified Au/SiO2. La and Mg showed better promoting effects on catalytic properties in this reaction compared to redox modifiers (Fe and Ce) supported on small SiO2 particles.

Analysis of carbon content in direct-write plasmonic Au structures by nanomechanical scanning absorption microscopy

Miao-Hsuan Chien et al.

Summary: This work presents a new chemical composition characterization method for direct-write focused electron beam-induced deposition (FEBID) gold nanostructures, demonstrating the possibility of characterizing the carbon content through differences in optical absorption and nanomechanical resonator frequency detuning. Post-purification with water successfully reduced the carbon content, offering a new technique for chemical analysis of nanostructures.

Tunable photoluminescence and SERS behaviour of additively manufactured Au nanoparticle patterns

Saleh Aghajani et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the ability to tune the optical behavior of gold nanoparticles through a low-temperature thermal treatment, with potential applications in optical sensor technologies like surface-enhanced Raman scattering and metal-enhanced fluorescence spectroscopy. The study highlights the importance of selective deposition of 3D gold nanostructures for optimizing optical response and enhancing Raman signals for specific bio-analytes.
