Second Data Release of the COSMOS Lyα Mapping and Tomography Observations: The First 3D Maps of the Detailed Cosmic Web at 2.05 < z < 2.55

Benjamin Horowitz et al.

Summary: This study presents the second data release of the COSMOS Ly alpha Mapping And Tomography Observations Survey, which uses Lα absorption to study neutral hydrogen in the intergalactic medium. The reconstructed 3D maps reveal the detailed cosmic web consisting of voids, sheets, filaments, and nodes. The data is publicly available for further exploration and qualitative comparisons.

Improving estimates of the growth rate using galaxy-velocity correlations: a simulation study

Ryan J. Turner et al.

Summary: This study introduces an improved framework for estimating the growth rate of large-scale structure, by utilizing measurements of galaxy-velocity cross-correlation. By considering various standard estimators and introducing a new estimator, along with analyzing covariance and minimizing chi(2), accurate estimates and errors for the growth rate can be determined. Testing the framework on mock data sets has shown a significant reduction in statistical uncertainty by combining different correlation statistics.

COSMIC BIRTH: efficient Bayesian inference of the evolving cosmic web from galaxy surveys

Francisco-Shu Kitaura et al.

Summary: The COSMIC BIRTH algorithm is able to reconstruct the cosmic density fields from galaxy surveys on the light-cone by modeling the displacement and peculiar velocity fields at different redshift snapshots. It efficiently maps galaxies to a single high redshift, providing tracers and survey completeness in Lagrangian space, and can obtain the primordial density field in a numerical way using Lagrangian tracers. The method includes survey mask, non-linear and non-local bias, and redshift-space distortions with a significantly higher efficiency compared to previous methods.

A Lyman-α protocluster at redshift 6.9

Weida Hu et al.

Summary: This study reports the discovery of the protocluster LAGER-z7OD1 at a redshift of 6.93, demonstrating that the total volume of ionized bubbles generated by its member galaxies is comparable to the volume of the protocluster itself. The protocluster consists of two subprotoclusters and is expected to merge into one massive cluster.

Spectroscopic observations of PHz G237.01+42.50: A galaxy protocluster at z=2.16 in the Cosmos field

M. Polletta et al.

Summary: The Planck satellite has identified a protocluster P Hz G237.01+42.50 containing 31 spectroscopically identified galaxies at z similar to 2.16, with estimated halo masses consistent with Virgo-type clusters. The protocluster's total SFR is higher than predicted by simulations, partly due to an effect of source alignment along the line of sight. Analysis of members shows that AGN represent a significant fraction of the protocluster at z = 2.16, with environmental effects on galaxy growth observed in the core. Comparisons with other similar protoclusters reveal common traits and differences reflecting observational biases and intrinsic diversity not yet fully understood.

Comprehensive Gas Characterization of a z=2.5 Protocluster: A Cluster Core Caught in the Beginning of Virialization?

Jaclyn B. Champagne et al.

Summary: This study characterizes the star-forming properties of a z = 2.5 protocluster in the COSMOS field and finds no evidence for enhanced star formation efficiency in the core. The constituent galaxies are already massive, with molecular gas reservoirs that will be depleted within 200-400 million years. The study also calculates the halo mass of the nested core at z = 2.5, predicting its collapse into a cluster comparable in size to the Coma Cluster at z = 0.

BIRTH of the COSMOS field: primordial and evolved density reconstructions during cosmic high noon

Metin Ata et al.

Summary: This work presents the first comprehensive study of structure formation at the peak epoch of cosmic star formation over 1.4 < z < 3.6 in the COSMOS field. By combining data from five different spectroscopic redshift surveys, unbiased primordial density fields can be inferred. The reconstructions reveal a holistic view on the known proto-clusters in the COSMOS field and the growth of the cosmic web towards lower redshifts.
