Assessing the dependence of the number of EEG channels in the brain networks' modulations

Francesca Miraglia et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the impact of EEG channels number on brain networks' analysis, finding that more channels influence the small-world index more in eyes open condition. In contrast, brain activity in eyes closed condition is less affected by specific regions' activations, and the small-world network measure is not affected by the number of recording channels. A montage of 19 EEG channels is deemed acceptable for studying brain networks' modulations in eyes closed condition.

Graph Theory on Brain Cortical Sources in Parkinson's Disease: The Analysis of 'Small World' Organization from EEG

Fabrizio Vecchio et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease can globally modulate the cortical connectivity of the brain, altering functional network organization and resulting in motor and non-motor symptoms. This approach based on a low-cost and non-invasive technique may be useful for early diagnosis, monitoring disease progression, and evaluating treatments.

Entropy as Measure of Brain Networks' Complexity in Eyes Open and Closed Conditions

Fabrizio Vecchio et al.

Summary: Brain complexity can be revealed through comparison of EEG signals during resting with eyes open and closed. Entropy, particularly ApEn, was used to measure system disorder and showed higher values in networks with eyes open. The study suggests that complexity of brain dynamics depends on individual brain state.

Entropy modulation of electroencephalographic signals in physiological aging

Francesca Alu et al.

Summary: The study found that elderly participants showed higher levels of disorder in the central, parietal, and occipital brain regions compared to younger participants, indicating a decrease in neural network synchronization associated with the aging process. This reduced synchronization may be due to the decline in cerebral connections typically observed in aging, highlighting the importance of understanding brain dynamics using entropy parameters for developing personalized rehabilitation programs and future research on neurodegenerative diseases.
