Statistical optimization of alkaline treatment of pomegranate peel waste for bioethanol production

Asma Chaudhary et al.

Summary: The dwindling of conventional energy resources has led to the exploration of new and sustainable forms of energy, such as bioethanol produced from degradable wastes. This study investigated the alkaline-hydrolysis optimization of pomegranate peel waste for bioethanol production and found optimal conditions that resulted in high conversion efficiency. The study also tested the fermentation of the hydrolyzate with novel ethanologenic yeasts, achieving significant ethanol yields.

Integrated bioprocess for bio-ethanol production from watermelon rind biomass: Ultrasound-assisted deep eutectic solvent pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation

Olugbenga Abiola Fakayode et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the combined ultrasonication and deep eutectic solvent (DES) pretreatment, along with enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation, is an efficient approach for bio-ethanol production from watermelon rind biomass. This integrated bioprocess improves fermentation efficiency and increases bio-ethanol yield through effective delignification, solubilization, and hydrolysis of cellulose and hemicellulose in the biomass.

Higher heating value, exergy, pyrolysis kinetics and thermodynamic analysis of ultrasound-assisted deep eutectic solvent pretreated watermelon rind biomass

Olugbenga Abiola Fakayode et al.

Summary: This study investigated the higher heating value and exergy of ultrasound-assisted deep eutectic solvent pretreated watermelon rind biomass, as well as the co-pyrolysis of watermelon rind biomass and coal blends. The HHV of pretreated WMR ranged between 12.73 and 19.28 MJ/kg, while the exergy value increased from 16.08 to 21.55 MJ/kg for the raw and pretreated WMR, respectively. The activation energy and enthalpy showed direct correlation with the amount of coal in the blends.
