Nitrogen recovery from pig slurry by struvite precipitation using a low-cost magnesium oxide

S. Astals et al.

Summary: Our research successfully optimized the technology for recovering ammonia nitrogen from pig manure by using a stabilizing agent synthesized from LG-MgO and phosphoric acid. The experimental results showed that the H3PO4/LG-MgO ratio controlled the magnesium phosphate mineral phase of the stabilizing agent.

Application of membrane separation processes in phosphorus recovery: A review

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: The depletion of phosphorus resources and the excessive discharge of phosphorus into waste streams are contrasting issues that can be effectively addressed through membrane separation technologies for phosphorus recovery. Factors to consider in membrane separation processes include membrane fouling, energy consumption, and selectivity of toxic substances.

A novel approach for nutrients recovery from municipal waste as biofertilizers by combining electrodialytic and gas permeable membrane technologies

Veronica Oliveira et al.

Summary: This work proposes a novel approach to recover high-purity phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) from municipal solid waste using two membrane processes. The study successfully extracted P and NH4+ from the waste and used them in the synthesis of a biofertilizer, highlighting the need for further process optimization to reduce costs.

Technologies to recover nitrogen from livestock manure-A review

Bishnu Pandey et al.

Summary: Livestock industry is a major emitter of ammonia globally, with nitrogen in livestock manure linked to water contamination. Recovering nitrogen from livestock manure can reduce environmental impact and create marketable nitrogenous fertilizers. Technologies like air stripping, thermal vacuum stripping, and gas-permeable membrane stripping show promise for livestock farmers.

Ammonia Recovery from Digestate Using Gas-Permeable Membranes: A Pilot-Scale Study

Berta Riano et al.

Summary: This study successfully demonstrated the reduction of TAN concentration in digestate and the recovery of TAN in a trapping solution using GPM technology. The frequent change of trapping solution proved to be an efficient strategy to enhance the overall performance of the technology.
