Hydrogen-rich gas production from the gasification of biomass and hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) aqueous phase

Longyuan Yang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the characteristics of aqueous phases derived from different agricultural wastes and their co-gasification with cotton stalk. The study analyzes the functional groups and pyrolysis behavior of the aqueous phases at different hydrothermal temperatures. It is found that the hydrogen content dominates the co-gasification syngas product, and the hydrothermal temperature of the aqueous phase affects the distribution and yield of syngas products. This research provides new possibilities for the treatment of agricultural waste and the synthesis of sustainable energy.

Technoeconomic analysis of co-hydrothermal carbonization of coal waste and food waste

Shanta Mazumder et al.

Summary: The aim of this research was to evaluate the technoeconomic prospect of hydrochar production through co-hydrothermal carbonization of coal waste and food waste. The economic analysis revealed that the cost and transportation cost of the raw materials significantly affected the break-even cost of hydrochar production. Increasing the production capacity decreased the break-even cost, but excessive increase in production capacity had a negative impact on the process economics.

Hydrothermal carbonization of sugarcane industry by-products and process water reuse: structural, morphological, and fuel properties of hydrochars

Joao Vitor dos Santos et al.

Summary: Hydrothermal carbonization has been evaluated for transforming sugarcane industry by-products into energy materials, while reusing process water in a novel HTC process with sugarcane bagasse. The hydrochars produced had lower volatile matter and higher fixed carbon content, showing fuel properties similar to conventional non-renewable energy sources.

Synthesis, characterization and absorbability of Crocus sativus petals hydrothermal carbonized hydrochar and activated hydrochar

Sajjad Rasam et al.

Summary: An environmentally friendly adsorbent for lead (II) ions removal was prepared by hydrothermal carbonization of Crocus sativus petals activated by KOH. The optimal conditions for Pb2+ adsorption were determined through evaluating the operating parameters, leading to a high adsorption capacity. Further investigation on kinetics and isotherms of adsorption was conducted on the optimal hydrochar.

Regimes of hydrochar yield from hydrothermal degradation of various lignocellulosic biomass: A review

Naomon Khan et al.

Summary: Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) technology is used to convert lignocellulosic biomass into carbon-rich solid fuel, with hydrochar finding applications as fuel, catalyst, and adsorbent. The study categorizes suitable feedstocks for HTC into five categories and reviews the operating regimes and hydrochar yields for each. Parameters such as temperature, residence time, pH, and water to biomass ratio significantly affect process yield, with potential for improvement using microwaves.
