Future climate change could reduce irrigated and rainfed wheat water footprint in arid environments

Reza Deihimfard et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the water footprint (WF) of irrigated and rainfed wheat agro-ecosystems in Iran under future climate conditions. The results showed that the total WF may decrease in the future for both irrigated and rainfed systems, but the share of gray water footprint is projected to increase.

Calibration and validation of the AquaCrop model for full and deficit irrigated cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp)

Edwin Kimutai Kanda et al.

Summary: The study calibrated and validated the AquaCrop model for cowpea under different irrigation conditions, demonstrating the model's accuracy and feasibility for simulating crop responses. The results showed good predictive performance of the model, especially under high water management regimes.

Towards withholding irrigation regimes and drought-resistant genotypes as strategies to increase canola production in drought-prone environments: A modeling approach

Sajjad Rahimi-Moghaddam et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the growth and yield of three rapeseed genotypes under different irrigation regimes and found that the mid-maturity genotype had the highest seed yield, while the late-maturity genotype was more drought-resistant. The findings suggest that the mid-maturity genotype has more yield potential under full irrigation conditions, and the late-maturity genotype can be a candidate for breeding high-yielding genotypes with drought tolerance. Withholding irrigation at the seed filling stage could be a strategy for water saving without significant decrease in seed yield.

Retrieval of rapeseed leaf area index using the PROSAIL model with canopy coverage derived from UAV images as a correction parameter

Bo Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, canopy coverage (CC) from UAV images was used as a correction parameter in the PROSAIL model to enhance the accuracy of LAI inversion for rapeseed plots. The positive impact of CC on LAI inversion accuracy, especially in sparse canopy structures, was evident. Comparison between an empirical statistical model (ESM) and the PROSAIL model incorporating CC correction showed that the PROSAIL model was more robust over the two datasets of 2016 and 2018, although inversion accuracy decreased with lower image resolutions.
