Spatial farming systems diversity and micronutrient intakes of rural children in Ethiopia

Tibebu Moges et al.

Summary: Smallholder production plays a significant role in food supply in low- and middle-income countries. Research indicates that children in rural areas commonly have inadequate intake of vitamin A and zinc, but low prevalence of inadequate iron intake. The diversity of spatial farming systems across rural clusters significantly influences the total dietary intakes of vitamin A, iron, and zinc.

Dietary diversity and practice of pregnant and lactating women in Ethiopia: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Zebenay Workneh Bitew et al.

Summary: The dietary diversity of pregnant and lactating women in resource-limited countries like Ethiopia is poor, with significant proportions of women having inadequate dietary diversities. The study found that the majority of women included had low to medium dietary diversity scores, and a high percentage had poor dietary practices. This suboptimal dietary diversity and practice could potentially lead to nutrient deficiencies, highlighting the need for nutrition promotion and intervention programs to be redesigned by policymakers and stakeholders.

Dietary diversity among pregnant women and associated factors in Ethiopia: Systematic review and meta-analysis

Abebaw Gedef Azene et al.

Summary: This study revealed a low proportion of pregnant women with adequate dietary diversity in Ethiopia (41%). Maternal education, nutritional information, dietary diversity knowledge, and household wealth index level were significantly associated with pregnant women's dietary diversity practice. Improving awareness about dietary diversity during pregnancy and empowering women economically would greatly improve dietary diversity practice.

Validation of a rapid antigen test as a screening tool for SARS-CoV-2 infection in asymptomatic populations. Sensitivity, specificity and predictive values

Alejandro Fernandez-Montero et al.

Summary: The study suggests that rapid antigen tests are less effective in asymptomatic population compared to RT-PCR. Further research is needed to improve screenings based on rapid antigen tests, such as using clinical questionnaires to select higher-risk participants, confirming negative results with RT-PCR, or utilizing repetitive sequential testing.
