Potential use of biomarkers for the clinical evaluation of sarcoidosis

Amir Mousapasandi et al.

Summary: Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease with unknown etiology characterized by non-caseating epithelioid cell granulomas, possibly linked to chronic antigenic stimulation. While there are currently no reliable biomarkers for the diagnosis or prognostic evaluation of sarcoidosis, emerging candidates may play a role in the future.

Cutibacterium acnes as an Opportunistic Pathogen: An Update of Its Virulence-Associated Factors

Constance Mayslich et al.

Summary: Cutibacterium acnes is a member of the skin microbiota that can act as a commensal bacterium as well as an opportunistic pathogen with inflammatory capabilities. It is able to form biofilms, express putative virulence factors, and adapt to its environment.

Vulnerability assessment of Lake Malawi's ornamental fish resources to export ornamental trade

Amulike V. Msukwa et al.

Summary: The Productivity Sustainability Analysis (PSA) was used to assess the vulnerability of 103 ornamental fish species from Lake Malawi to fishing for export trade. The vulnerability scores varied among species, with a positive correlation to IUCN conservation status. Susceptibility scores had a stronger impact on the vulnerability of high-vulnerability species.

A Janus-Faced Bacterium: Host-Beneficial and -Detrimental Roles of Cutibacterium acnes

Holger Bruggemann et al.

Summary: This review summarizes and discusses the tight association of Cutibacterium acnes with humans, its colonization traits, host responses, disease associations, and beneficial aspects of colonization. Efforts in manipulating skin microbiota, including the use of C. acnes strains as probiotics to treat skin disorders, are also highlighted.

Pathological Manifestations of Francisella orientalis in the Green Texas Cichlid (Herichthys cyanoguttatus)

Chia-Hsuan Chang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the pathogenic manifestations of Francisella orientalis in green Texas cichlid fish through a challenge experiment, indicating that the fish is susceptible to the bacterium and new management and vaccination strategies are necessary. This adds to the knowledge of host base for Francisella orientalis and confirms its pathogenicity in ornamental cichlid fish.

Immunohistochemical Detection of Propionibacterium acnes in Granulomas for Differentiating Sarcoidosis from Other Granulomatous Diseases Utilizing an Automated System with a Commercially Available PAB Antibody

Takuma Isshiki et al.

Summary: Propionibacterium acnes is associated with the pathogenesis of sarcoidosis. Immunohistochemistry with a PAB antibody can differentiate sarcoidosis from other granulomatous diseases by detecting P. acnes in granulomas. The automated Leica system has the best detection sensitivity for P. acnes in sarcoid granulomas.

A Temporally Dynamic Gut Microbiome in Atlantic Salmon During Freshwater Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) Production and Post-seawater Transfer

Marlene Lorgen-Ritchie et al.

Summary: This study analyzed temporal changes in the microbiome associated with the intestine in Atlantic salmon during smolt production, finding a sharp decline in microbial diversity 1-week post-seawater transfer (SWT) followed by re-establishment with a different community structure after 4 weeks. Core microbial taxa were classified into three categories: omnipresent, salinity specific, and transient. Additionally, an increase in microbial richness in the water was observed, possibly due to a temporal increase in organic load, while dominance of Vibrionaceae was attributed to higher temperatures during RAS production.
