Design of a quad-stable piezoelectric energy harvester capable of programming the coordinates of equilibrium points

Donglin Zou et al.

Summary: This study develops a novel quad-stable energy harvester (QEH) with user-defined equilibrium point coordinates. By programming these coordinates, high-performance QEHs can be developed and personalized for different vibration environments. The designed QEH shows high average output power, normalized power density, and operating frequency range.

An Improved Surface Charge Model for the Static Force Calculation Among the Permanent Magnets in Magnetic Bearings or Magnetic Springs

He Zhang et al.

Summary: This article presents an improved surface charge model for static force calculation among permanent magnets, which requires estimation of the actual working point of each magnet using a magnetic field iteration method. The influences of the number of nodes and iteration times on the model accuracy are analyzed, and the improved model is shown to reduce error and provide static force values closer to 3-D finite-element method (FEM) and experimental results. Additionally, the improved model has a significant advantage over 3-D FEM in terms of computation time, making it suitable for design and analysis of magnetic bearings or magnetic springs.

Resonant Frequency Reduction of Vertical Vibration Energy Harvester by Using Negative-Stiffness Magnetic Spring

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to reduce the resonant frequency of vibration energy harvesters by adding a negative-stiffness magnetic spring, allowing them to adapt to low-frequency ambient vibrations. Comparisons between energy harvesters with and without the negative-stiffness magnetic spring show that the resonant frequency of the vertical energy harvester can be reduced as expected without an increase in initial spring deformation.

Analysis and Experimental Testing of a New Type of Variable Stiffness Magnetic Spring with a Linear Stroke Length

Md Emrad Hossain et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new type of variable stiffness magnetic spring, which consists of radially magnetized outer rotor magnets and axially magnetized inner cylindrical magnets to achieve highly linear stroke length. The stiffness of the spring can be adjusted by rotating the inner magnetic rotor. The force as a function of stroke length and torque required for adjusting the stiffness were computed using finite element analysis and verified through experimental tests.
