Mobility Restrictions and E-Commerce: Holistic Balance in Madrid Centre during COVID-19 Lockdown

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed urban mobility and e-commerce, with urban logistics playing a crucial role in sustainability. In Madrid Central area, road traffic decreased by approximately 2/3 and Light Commercial Vehicles decreased by 1/2, while the number of e-commerce parcels doubled, resulting in increased pollution. The challenge for urban logistics post-Covid era is finding a balance between new mobility options in large cities and the high demand for e-commerce deliveries.
