Degradation of a non-oxidizing biocide in circulating cooling water using UV/persulfate: Kinetics, pathways, and cytotoxicity

Jinzhi Cui et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the oxidative degradation of isothiazolinone by UV/persulfate technology and found that the presence of .OH and SO4.- in the UV/PS system significantly contributed to the degradation of CMIT-MIT. The degradation efficiency of CMIT-MIT was improved with UV/PS compared to only UV or oxidant, and showed a slight decrease with increasing pH. The UV/PS process effectively reduced the cytotoxicity of CMIT-MIT within 20 minutes, demonstrating its potential as a water treatment technology.

Enhanced photoelectrochemical aptasensing triggered by nitrogen deficiency and cyano group simultaneously engineered 2D carbon nitride for sensitively monitoring atrazine

Pengcheng Yan et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel carbon nitride material for sensitive detection of ATZ residues, which is engineered with nitrogen deficiency and cyano groups to enhance photoelectrochemical performance. The method exhibited good linear range and low detection limit when detecting real samples.

Does diclofenac act like a photosynthetic herbicide on green algae? Chlamydomonas reinhardtii synchronous culture -based study with atrazine as reference

Monika Majewska et al.

Summary: Research found that DCF and atrazine had different effects on Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. Both substances decreased photosynthetic vitality of the cells, but for different reasons. Atrazine disrupted photosynthetic electron transport, leading to excessive ROS production and limited cell growth, while DCF silenced PSII reaction centers, preventing significant ROS overproduction.

Soybean isoflavones protect SH-SY5Y neurons from atrazine-induced toxicity by activating mitophagy through stimulation of the BEX2/BNIP3/NIX pathway

Peng Li et al.

Summary: Soybean isoflavones can protect neurons against ATR toxicity by promoting mitophagy, and their neuroprotective efficacy is superior to their major individual components. The study also shows that SI can activate the BEX2/BNIP3/NIX pathway to counteract ATR-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and neurotoxicity.

Metabolic process and spatial partition dynamics of Atrazine in an estuary-to-bay system, Jiaozhou bay

Wei Ouyang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the spatial distributions of atrazine and its metabolites in water, suspended particulate sediment (SPS), and surface sediment in an estuary-to-bay system. The results showed that metabolites were more actively degraded in the coastal zone and dechlorination-hydroxylation metabolites were dominant pollutants in the bay. Environmental factors have a direct influence on the transport and redistribution of metabolites during the process.

Different activation methods in sulfate radical-based oxidation for organic pollutants degradation: Catalytic mechanism and toxicity assessment of degradation intermediates

Wenqi Wang et al.

Summary: With the continuous development of industrialization, more refractory organic pollutants are released into the environment, posing serious risks to human health and wildlife. The sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation technology is widely applied in organic pollutants treatment due to its high efficiency and eco-friendly nature. Various methods for persulfate and per-oxymonosulfate activation, identification of reactive oxygen species, toxicity of degradation intermediates, and detoxification and mineralization of target pollutants induced by different reactive oxygen species are comprehensively summarized.
