Discontinuous and continuous Galerkin methods for compressible single-phase and two-phase flow in fractured porous media

Tianran Ma et al.

Summary: The study presents DG and CG approximations for single- and two-phase flow in fractured porous media. The proposed method accurately captures pressure continuity and jumps across the matrix-fracture interface. Simulation results demonstrate reliable prediction of flow behaviors in fractured porous media using the developed approach.

Comparisons of Methane Adsorption/Desorption, Diffusion Behaviors on Intact Coals and Deformed Coals: Based on Experimental Analysis and Isosteric Heat of Adsorption

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: The isosteric heat of adsorption is a key parameter for assessing the thermodynamic properties of gas adsorption and migration in coals. Results from isotherm experiments show that Langmuir V-L in coal is dependent on temperature and coal structures, and adsorption heat is higher in intact coals than in deformed coals. Additionally, diffusion coefficients decrease with depressurization processes, and gas diffusion mainly occurs in different pore sizes corresponding to Fick's, transitional, and Knudsen diffusion. The high initial diffusion coefficient in deformed coals is related to the low isosteric heat of adsorption.

Influence of effective stress on gas slippage effect of different rank coals

Ya Meng et al.

Summary: The study investigates the gas slippage effect on gas seepage in coal, revealing the influence of effective stresses on different rank coals and their gas slippage effect control mechanism. Experiment results show that with decreasing pore pressure, gas permeability and slippage effect in coal increase, controlled by effective stress. A novel evaluation method is proposed to quantitatively assess the impact of gas slippage effect on coal permeability.

A Coal Permeability Model with Variable Fracture Compressibility Considering Triaxial Strain Condition

Jun Tang et al.

Summary: Fracture compressibility and strain conditions play a crucial role in coal permeability evolution. The new permeability model derived in this study, considering variable fracture compressibility, showed more accurate results compared to the model with constant fracture compressibility. Coal fracture compressibility generally decreases with increasing effective stress and responds differently to changes in gas pressure and type.

Experimental insights into the adsorption-desorption of CH4/N2 and induced strain for medium-rank coals

Zhenzhi Wang et al.

Summary: The experiments on the effect of N-2-enhanced coalbed methane show that increasing N-2 fraction can reduce coal selectivity to CH4 and promote its desorption. Moreover, nitrogen fraction and micropore volume are the main factors controlling volume deformation.

Summary: By injecting N-2 into the reservoir and sealing the well for a certain period of time while maintaining high reservoir pressure, CH4 desorption induced coal volume shrinkage, restoration of fracture aperture, and induction of new fractures, increasing permeability; in addition, DSD can be more consistent with the gas production process.

Geothermal Distribution Characteristics in the Qinshui Basin and Its Significance to the Production of Coalbed Methane

Yina Yu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed heat flow temperature data from coalbed methane wells in the Qinshui Basin to investigate geothermal distribution characteristics and controlling factors. The results showed that factors such as groundwater level, total dissolved substances, and floor elevation significantly affect the geothermal gradient and terrestrial heat flow.
