Effectiveness of artesunate combined with fractional CO2 laser in a hypertrophic scar model with underlying mechanism

Jinxia Zhang et al.

Summary: The combination of artesunate and fractional CO2 laser was found to be effective in treating hypertrophic scars in a rabbit model. The inhibition of hypertrophic scars and collagen fibers was more significant in the combination group compared to the artesunate and fractional CO2 laser groups. The expression of BMP-7 and Fas was upregulated in all treatment groups, with a more dominant upregulation in the combination group.

Artesunate protects immunosuppression mice induced by glucocorticoids via enhancing pro-inflammatory cytokines release and bacterial clearance

Yan Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that artesunate has immunomodulatory effects on hydrocortisone-induced immunosuppression, enhancing bacterial clearance ability and increasing inflammatory response. Artesunate's effect is related to the improvement of the TLR4/NF-kappa B signal transduction pathway by inhibiting the upregulation of GILZ mRNA. Further investigation into the immunomodulatory effects of artesunate is warranted.

Artesunate inhibits Sjogren's syndrome-like autoimmune responses and BAFF-induced B cell hyperactivation via TRAF6-mediated NF-κB signaling

Tianle Zhan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that artesunate (ART) can attenuate BAFF-induced B cell hyperactivation and Sjogren's syndrome (SS)-like symptoms in NOD/Ltj mice. ART inhibited lymphocytic foci formation, B cell infiltration and autoantibody secretion in mice, while also targeting BAFF-activated NF kappa B pathway by regulating TRAF6 degradation to determine B cell survival and proliferation.

Recrudescence of a high parasitaemia, severe Plasmodium falciparum malaria episode, treated by artesunate monotherapy

Sophie Landre et al.

Summary: A patient with severe malaria and hyperparasitaemia was initially treated with 7-day artesunate monotherapy, which led to a severe recrudescence due to hyperparasitaemia, monotherapy, and a polyclonal infection without Kelch 13 gene mutation. Subsequent treatments with artesunate, quinine, and artemether-lumefantrine were successful in curing the patient.

Xylopic acid-amodiaquine and xylopic acid-artesunate combinations are effective in managing malaria in Plasmodium berghei-infected mice

Silas Acheampong Osei et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the synergistic anti-malarial effect of co-administration of xylopic acid with either artesunate or amodiaquine in mice infected with Plasmodium berghei. The results showed that xylopic acid acted synergistically with both artesunate and amodiaquine in clearing the parasites, indicating a potential for combined therapies in combating malaria. Additionally, the combination treatments significantly reduced weight loss and increased survival days of infected mice.

4-chloro eugenol interacts synergistically with artesunate against drug resistant P. falciparum inducing oxidative stress

Pooja Rani Mina et al.

Summary: 4-chloro eugenol (4CE) exhibits potent antiplasmodial activity, synergizes with artesunate by increasing reactive oxygen and nitrogen species levels, affects macromolecules, and disrupts cellular organelles. In vivo assays show significant chemo-suppression and improved survival time in a murine malaria model, with a combination of 4CE and artesunate attenuating cerebral malaria pathogenesis.
