Occurrence and mass flows of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in Sweden's three largest lakes and associated rivers

Daniel Malnes et al.

Summary: This study assessed the occurrence and mass flows of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in Sweden's main lakes and associated rivers. The study found that the CEC concentration in river water was generally higher than in lake water. Seasonal variations of CECs were observed at urban lake sites. Further investigations are needed to understand the impact of CECs on the ecosystem and human health, as these lakes are used as drinking water reservoirs.

Direct Transfer of Phthalate and Alternative Plasticizers from Indoor Source Products to Dust: Laboratory Measurements and Predictive Modeling

Chenyang Bi et al.

Summary: Phthalate and alternative plasticizers are among the most abundant indoor pollutants and can directly transfer from source products to dust, with various factors such as Koa, emission parameter and dust layer characteristics influencing the concentration and kinetics of this transfer. Minimizing the use of SVOC-containing products and regular vacuuming are effective strategies to reduce young children's exposure to SVOCs.

Summary: The study found a variety of plasticizer sources in a highly industrialized lake, with DEHP as the main plasticizer and an increasing concentration ratio of alternative plasticizers. DEHP concentrations in creeks exceeded almost all threshold values associated with ecological risks.

Distribution, source apportionment, and health risk assessment of phthalate esters in indoor dust samples across China

Xu Li et al.

Summary: Phthalates were widely detected in indoor dusts in China, with significant differences in concentration distribution due to economic development and PAE product usage. Potential sources of PAEs in indoor dusts included cosmetics, plasticizers, and household building materials. Noncancer risks were posed by DBP, DEHP, DnOP, and BBzP exposure, while carcinogenic risks from BBzP and DEHP were negligible.

Summary: The GerES is a study conducted by the German Environment Agency and the Robert Koch Institute to understand environmental exposures of the general population in Germany. The survey includes measurements of pollutants in human samples and homes, as well as interviews about health-related behaviors and living conditions. By ensuring representativeness through various examinations and surveys, the GerES results are intended to be reliable and informative.

Targeted and suspect screening of plasticizers in house dust to assess cumulative human exposure risk

Hale Demirtepe et al.

Summary: Indoor dust is an important exposure route to plasticizers commonly used in consumer products. This study investigated the presence of phthalate esters (PEs) and alternative plasticizers (APs) in house dust, suggesting that APs are used at similar levels to PEs. While individual PEs may have lower toxicity, cumulative risk assessment based on the presence of many PEs with similar toxic modes of action is more appropriate to evaluate the risk.
