A novel non-antimicrobial treatment of bacterial vaginosis: An open label two-private centre study

Harriett C. Latham-Cork et al.

Summary: pHyph shows potential for high cure rates and reducing recurrence in treating bacterial vaginosis. Recurrence rates at 14 days post-treatment were only 5.6% with no additional recurrences reported at 35 days.

Comparative Genome Analyses of Lactobacillus crispatus Isolates from Different Ecological Niches Reveal an Adaptation of This Species to the Human Vaginal Environment

Leonardo Mancabelli et al.

Summary: The vaginal microbiota is predominantly composed of Lactobacillus genus, with Lactobacillus crispatus strains associated with a healthy vaginal environment. A study of 94 healthy vaginal samples revealed that L. crispatus was the most representative species and negatively correlated with pathogenic bacteria. The genetic adaptation of L. crispatus strains to their ecological niche was shown through comparative genomics analysis, and in vitro experiments demonstrated the species' ability to modulate the vaginal microbial consortia.

Probiotics in Cosmetic and Personal Care Products: Trends and Challenges

Scarlett Puebla-Barragan et al.

Summary: Probiotics, defined as live microorganisms that confer a health benefit on the host when administered in adequate amounts, are increasingly popular in personal care products. Proper regulation is needed to ensure that products labelled as probiotics actually meet the defining characteristics and provide benefits to consumers.

The Vaginal Microbiome: A Long Urogenital Colonization Throughout Woman Life

Renata S. Auriemma et al.

Summary: The vaginal microbial niche is a dynamic ecosystem consisting of over 200 bacterial species influenced by genes, ethnic background, and environmental-behavioral factors. It has been well documented that the vaginal microbiome constantly changes throughout a woman's life, exerting a significant impact on her quality of life. This review discusses the role of the vaginal microbiome in maintaining woman's homeostasis and tracking critical changes that commonly occur across a woman's lifetime, as well as the potential benefits of hormone replacement therapy for postmenopausal women.
