Exogenous application of xanthine and uric acid and nucleobase-ascorbate transporter MdNAT7 expression regulate salinity tolerance in apple

Tingting Sun et al.

Summary: The exogenous application of xanthine and uric acid was found to enhance the resistance of apple plants to salinity stress. Transgenic apple plants overexpressing MdNAT7 showed improved tolerance to salinity stress, likely due to enhanced ROS scavenging and ion homeostasis abilities.

Identification of a new function of metallothionein-like gene OsMT1e for cadmium detoxification and potential phytoremediation

Justice Kipkorir Rono et al.

Summary: This study identified a novel function of OsMT1e in rice, showing that its expression is induced by Cd exposure and enhances cellular tolerance to Cd. OsMT1e overexpression in rice resulted in improved growth and increased Cd accumulation, while RNAi lines exhibited reduced Cd accumulation and sensitive growth phenotypes.

Natural variations in the P-type ATPase heavy metal transporter gene ZmHMA3 control cadmium accumulation in maize grains

Bin Tang et al.

Summary: This study identified a major locus (qCd1) controlling maize grain Cd accumulation through GWAS and bulked segregant RNA-seq analysis. The candidate gene ZmHMA3 was found to play a crucial role in maize grain Cd accumulation. Molecular markers developed based on natural variations in the ZmHMA3 gene can be used to predict grain Cd contents of different maize lines and hybrids.
