Preoperative assessment of microvascular invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma using non-Gaussian diffusion-weighted imaging with a fractional order calculus model: A pilot study

Jiejun Chen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical potential of a set of new diffusion parameters derived from fractional order calculus (FROC) diffusion model in predicting microvascular invasion (MVI) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The results showed that these parameters can serve as noninvasive quantitative imaging markers for preoperatively predicting the MVI status of HCCs.

Summary: The study explored the value of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in predicting microvascular invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma using Convolutional Neural Networks. Results showed that the fusion of deep features from different b-value images yielded the best performance for MVI prediction.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

The Role of Non-Gaussian Models of Diffusion Weighted MRI in Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Systematic Review

Liberatore Tramontano et al.

Summary: The importance of non-Gaussian DWI models in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been explored, but results are variable and consensus is lacking. Although the parameters of these models may have potential relevance in HCC, further research is needed to establish a standardized DWI acquisition protocol.

Diffusion-Weighted Imaging Reflects Tumor Grading and Microvascular Invasion in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Alexey Surov et al.

Summary: The study found that minimum ADC reflects tumor grading in HCC, while both minimum ADC and D can predict MVI in HCC. Therefore, these DWI parameters should be estimated for pretreatment tumor stratification in each HCC lesion.
