Inflammation and immune dysfunction in Parkinson disease

Malu Gamez Tansey et al.

Summary: This review explores the role of an ageing immune system, host genetics, and exposure to environmental stressors in promoting the development of Parkinson's disease. It discusses the presence of neuroinflammation and alterations in immune cell populations as well as the potential contributions of viral or bacterial exposure, pesticides, and gut microbiota to disease pathogenesis.

Highly accurate protein structure prediction with AlphaFold

John Jumper et al.

Summary: Proteins are essential for life, and accurate prediction of their structures is a crucial research problem. Current experimental methods are time-consuming, highlighting the need for accurate computational approaches to address the gap in structural coverage. Despite recent progress, existing methods fall short of atomic accuracy in protein structure prediction.

The extracellular chaperone Clusterin enhances Tau aggregate seeding in a cellular model

Patricia Yuste-Checa et al.

Summary: Variants of the extracellular chaperone Clusterin are associated with Alzheimer's disease and Clusterin levels are elevated in AD patient brains. The authors demonstrate that Clusterin binds to oligomeric Tau, enhancing the seeding capacity of Tau aggregates and leading to damage in cells. This propagation of aggregate pathology may accelerate disease progression in Tau-related neurodegeneration.

Macular microcirculation characteristics in Parkinson's disease evaluated by OCT-Angiography: a literature review

Evita Evangelia Christou et al.

Summary: The retina may serve as a predictive factor for neurodegenerative disorders, with recent use of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) in studying macular microcirculation changes in Parkinson's disease (PD). While preliminary evidence suggests OCT-A could be a useful biomarker for cerebral vasculature in PD, further research is needed to confirm its predictive value in clinical practice.
