Molecular characterization of infectious bronchitis virus in Southwestern China for the protective efficacy evaluation of four live vaccine strains

Shuyun Li et al.

Summary: The high mutation rate of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) poses a significant threat to the protective efficacy of vaccines. This study analyzed field strains of IBV isolated in Southwestern China from 2018 to 2020, assessed their pathogenicity, and evaluated the protective efficacy of commercial vaccine strains against these strains. The findings provide important insights for the molecular evolution analysis and control of IBV.

Mutual relationships between SARS-CoV-2 test numbers, fatality and morbidity rates

Piotr Korneta et al.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 test numbers and mortality and morbidity rates using statistical analysis of monthly observations from 107 countries over an 11-month period. The results showed that test rates follow a power law and can be approximated by Theil Sen trend lines, with significant correlations between test numbers and morbidity with fatality rates. Recommendations for SARS-CoV-2 testing strategy were provided based on the findings.

Plant-derived exosomal microRNAs inhibit lung inflammation induced by exosomes SARS-CoV-2 Nsp12

Yun Teng et al.

Summary: The study found that exosomes released from lung epithelial cells exposed to SARS-CoV-2 led to inflamed lung tissue in mice. These exosomes were taken up by lung macrophages, inducing lung inflammation and ultimately causing apoptosis of lung epithelial cells. Ginger exosome-like nanoparticles (GELNs) containing specific miRNA played a crucial role in inhibiting inflammation.

Exosomes/microvesicles target SARS-CoV-2 via innate and RNA-induced immunity with PIWI-piRNA system

Shoeb Ikhlas et al.

Summary: Murine neural stem cells were found to release piRNA-containing exosomes/microvesicles (Ex/Mv) for antiviral immunity, including targeting SARS-CoV-2. Induced Ex/Mv from hypothalamic NSCs, exposed to specific RNA fragments of SARSCoV-2 genome, showed enhanced antiviral effects due to increased piRNA species expression, with the PIWI-piRNA system playing a crucial role in these actions. Thus, certain cell types' Ex/Mv demonstrate innate and adaptive immunity against SARS-CoV-2, highlighting the importance of the PIWI-piRNA system.
