Mode-localized accelerometer in the nonlinear Duffing regime with 75 ng bias instability and 95 ng/√Hz noise floor

Hemin Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the operation and optimization of mode-localized sensors in a nonlinear regime through theoretical and experimental analysis. The performance improvement of the sensors is observed and the effects of temperature drift and external perturbations are suppressed.

A Micromechanical Mode-Localized Voltmeter

Yongcun Hao et al.

Summary: This paper presents a high-resolution voltmeter based on applying mode localization in a 3 DOF weakly coupled resonators system. The method detects input voltage by measuring the amplitude ratio shift of the WCRs, with a measured relative shift of amplitude ratio 2918 times higher than that of the resonant frequency. The voltmeter has a noise floor of 3 mu V/root Hz and errors of repeatability and backhaul both less than 3%.

A Low-Noise High-Order Mode-Localized MEMS Accelerometer

Hemin Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a precision mode-localized accelerometer operating in a higher-order flexural mode, achieving ultra-weak coupling factor and reduced noise floor compared to lower-order modes. The accelerometer working in the fifth-order mode demonstrates the best results in terms of bias instability and noise floor among accelerometers using the mode localization paradigm. Operating at a higher working frequency can potentially improve the performance of mode-localized sensors if the coupling factor and quality factor remain stable.
