Detection of Marker Associated with CTC in Colorectal Cancer in Mononuclear Cells of Patients with Benign Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases

Johanna Born et al.

Summary: This study investigated the presence of CTC-associated markers in the blood of patients with benign inflammatory intestinal disease (IID) and their correlation with malignancy. The results showed that CK20 and DEFA5 were significantly different between diseased patients and healthy controls. LAD1 and PLS3 were detected in all samples with clear differences in gene expression. Overall, PLS3 emerged as a suitable marker for differentiating between malignant and non-malignant intestinal diseases or healthy controls, but further validation is needed for early CRC detection.

Prospective Comparison of the Prognostic Relevance of Circulating Tumor Cells in Blood and Disseminated Tumor Cells in Bone Marrow of a Single Patient's Cohort With Esophageal Cancer

Leonie Konczalla et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of disseminated tumor cells (DTCs) and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in esophageal cancer patients. Only CTCs were significantly associated with shorter overall and relapse-free survival, suggesting that CTC status could serve as an independent prognostic marker in early-stage EC patients.

The inhibitory effect of human DEFA5 in growth of gastric cancer by targeting BMI1

Zhongwei Wu et al.

Summary: DEFA5 is downregulated in human gastric cancer and overexpression of DEFA5 can effectively inhibit cell proliferation and colony forming ability in gastric cancer cell lines, inducing cell cycle arrest and suppressing tumor growth through regulating related signaling pathways.
