Summary: This research, utilizing large-scale national survey data linked to administrative mortality records, reveals that during the COVID-19 crisis, individuals living in certain locations, lacking health insurance coverage, with low incomes, and in occupations with limited work-from-home options experienced the most significant increases in mortality. Additionally, mortality increases were higher among non-Hispanic Black respondents compared to non-Hispanic White respondents in almost all subgroups.

Identifying organ dysfunction trajectory-based subphenotypes in critically ill patients with COVID-19

Chang Su et al.

Summary: Analysis of post-intubation trajectories in COVID-19 patients revealed distinct worsening and recovering subphenotypes, which are more predictive of outcomes than baseline severity of illness. Different progression biomarkers at varying baseline severity of illness suggest a heterogeneous pathobiology in the progression of COVID-19 respiratory failure.
