Hypophosphatemia on ICU Admission Is Associated with an Increased Length of Stay in the ICU and Time under Mechanical Ventilation

Hannah Wozniak et al.

Summary: Hypophosphatemia upon ICU admission is associated with prolonged duration of mechanical ventilation and length of stay in the ICU, both in the general population and in COVID-19 patients.

Serum phosphate is associated with mortality among patients admitted to ICU for acute pancreatitis

Abdellah Hedjoudje et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the accuracy of clinical and laboratory parameters in predicting mortality among patients admitted to the ICU for acute pancreatitis. The analysis identified several factors, including alkaline phosphatase, anion gap, total bilirubin, total calcium, phosphate, potassium, and white blood cells, which can predict mortality in AP. Serum phosphate level was found to be the most valuable single routine laboratory test for predicting mortality in AP with an AUC of 0.7 in the ROC analysis.

Phosphate abnormalities and outcomes among admissions to the intensive care unit: A retrospective multicentre cohort study

Jeremy Cheuk Kin Sin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of serum phosphate abnormalities at ICU admission on risk of death and length of stay in critically ill patients. The findings indicated that both hypophosphatemia and hyperphosphatemia were independently associated with an increased risk of death, highlighting the importance of monitoring phosphate levels in ICU patients.
