Comparative study of Vancouver type B2 periprosthetic fractures treated by internal fixation versus stem revision

Sagi Martinov et al.

Summary: In the treatment of Vancouver type B2 periprosthetic femoral fractures, internal fixation was found to be a viable alternative to stem revision, especially for older patients, with significantly less blood loss and shorter surgical times. Other parameters such as BMI, ASA score, anesthesia type, length of hospital stay, surgeons' experience and radiological outcomes did not show significant differences between the two treatment groups.

No radiological and biological sign of trunnionosis with Large Diameter Head Ceramic Bearing Total Hip Arthroplasty after 5 years

David Eichler et al.

Summary: In a study of 57 patients with unilateral primary LDH CoC THA, whole blood Ti, Cr, and Co levels were measured at a minimum of 5 years. The results showed that Ti levels were low, with all values below the safety threshold, and in a subgroup of patients with previous measurements, a decrease in mean Ti levels was observed over time. At last follow-up, no patients exhibited radiological signs of osteolysis, clinical signs of ARMD, or required reoperation. The majority of patients had excellent clinical outcomes with 98% reporting no or minor functional limitations, and 44% considering their THA as natural hip joint.

Ceramic-on-Ceramic Total Hip Arthroplasty with Large Diameter Heads: A Systematic Review

Francesco Castagnini et al.

Summary: Large-diameter COC THAs (>=40 mm) demonstrate promising clinical and radiological outcomes with minimal revision rates. Noise is a concern that needs careful evaluation in longer follow-ups and in larger, prospective, specifically designed case series.

True Cumulative Incidence of and Risk Factors for Hip Dislocation within 2 Years After Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty Due to Osteoarthritis A Nationwide Population-Based Study from the Danish Hip Arthroplasty Register

Lars L. Hermansen et al.

Summary: The true 2-year cumulative incidence of dislocation after primary THAs performed in Denmark between 2010 and 2014 was found to be 3.5%. Age, sex, ASA score, head size and type, fixation method, and surgical approach were identified as independent significant factors for dislocation. Comprehensive search algorithms are needed to accurately report complications in national registers.

Ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty is superior to metal-on-conventional polyethylene at 20-year follow-up: A randomised clinical trial

Pascal-Andre Vendittoli et al.

Summary: The study concluded that more than 20 years postoperatively, ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) bearings in total hip arthroplasty (THA) had superior outcomes compared to metal-on-conventional polyethylene (MoPc) bearings in terms of survivorship, complications, radiographic wear signs, and functional scores.

Articular Noise After THA Using Delta CoC Bearings Has Little Impact on Quality of Life

Jean-Christophe Chatelet et al.

Summary: This study reported the clinical outcomes and survival of consecutive uncemented total hip arthroplasty (THA) with fourth-generation ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) bearings for at least 10 years. It found that the incidence of articular noises had negligible impact on the quality of life for most patients after 10 years.
