Mediation of the Cardioprotective Effects of Mannitol Discovered, with Refutation of Common Protein Kinases

Carolin Torregroza et al.

Summary: The study found that Mannitol achieves cardioprotective effects through activation of the adenosine A1 receptor, rather than the protein kinases Akt and PKG. Akt and PKG are not involved in the preconditioning cardioprotection induced by Mannitol.

Pharmacological Conditioning of the Heart: An Update on Experimental Developments and Clinical Implications

Sebastian Roth et al.

Summary: Pharmacological conditioning aims to protect the heart from myocardial I/R injury, but there remains a gap between basic research and clinical practice. This review covers new developments in experimental research and clinical evidence, highlighting the challenges of applying pharmacological conditioning in a clinical setting.

Influence of Hyperglycemia and Diabetes on Cardioprotection by Humoral Factors Released after Remote Ischemic Preconditioning (RIPC)

Carolin Torregroza et al.

Summary: The study found that remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) can reduce infarct size in both healthy and type 1 diabetic animals, but the effect is not significant in hyperglycemic animals. Hyperglycemic plasma may have cardioprotective properties, while RIPC does not confer cardioprotection in type 1 diabetic and hyperglycemic myocardium.
