Early biochemical predictors of clinically relevant pancreatic fistula after distal pancreatectomy: a role for serum amylase and C-reactive protein

Nicolo Pecorelli et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of early biochemical markers on the occurrence of clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula (CR-POPF) after distal pancreatectomy. The findings suggest that postoperative serum amylase and C-reactive protein trajectory can serve as useful early predictors for CR-POPF, in addition to drain fluid amylase. Incorporating these laboratory tests into clinical practice can aid in the management of postoperative patients and drainage.

The applications of DNA methylation as a biomarker in kidney transplantation: a systematic review

Iacopo Cristoferi et al.

Summary: DNA methylation is considered a potential biomarker in kidney transplantation for predicting and monitoring graft survival and complications. Studies have shown that alterations in DNA methylation patterns in cells from different tissues are associated with ischemia-reperfusion injury and chronic renal allograft dysfunction, and play a crucial role in immune response modulation.

Effect of volatile anesthetics on early and delayed outcomes in pancreas transplantation

Sam M. Atoa et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of different inhaled anesthetics on early ischemia-reperfusion injury and clinical outcomes in pancreas allograft recipients. The findings suggest that sevoflurane and desflurane may be associated with lower peak amylase and lipase levels postoperatively in pancreas transplantation, with equivalent short- and long-term clinical outcomes for the three agents.

Serum pancreatic enzymes in the early postoperative period predict complications associated with pancreatic fluid after pancreas transplantation: A retrospective, single-center, observational cohort study

Kazuki Tomihara et al.

Summary: The study found that complications related to pancreatic fluid after pancreas transplantation are associated with high serum pancreatic amylase levels in the early postoperative period, indicating that serum pancreatic enzymes in the first few days after surgery may be a significant predictive factor for CAPF.

Urinary Extracellular Vesicles Are a Novel Tool to Monitor Allograft Function in Kidney Transplantation: A Systematic Review

Liang Wu et al.

Summary: Urinary extracellular vesicles (uEVs) are linked to processes like infection and rejection after kidney transplantation, providing a non-intrusive way to access local protein, DNA, and RNA analytics. Studies have shown that specific markers such as kidney-specific and immune response-related markers can diagnose complications post-kidney transplantation. Further research on novel uEV markers is needed to better understand transplant dysfunction.

Ischemia-Reperfusion Injuries Assessment during Pancreas Preservation

Thomas Prudhomme et al.

Summary: In pancreas transplantation, utilizing perfusion for organ preservation has shown promising results and the development of machine perfusion techniques for whole pancreas preservation is on the rise. By evaluating various indicators during perfusion, such as edema, oxygen consumption, and cell death, researchers aim to gain a better understanding of the organ's condition.

Summary: The study found that both CRP and PCT are highly effective in diagnosing POPF after PD, especially with CRP levels on POD 4 and PCT levels on POD 5 showing high diagnostic value. Further randomized controlled trials are recommended to verify the conclusions due to the limited number of analyzed studies.

The Value of Graft Implantation Sequence in Simultaneous Pancreas-Kidney Transplantation on the Outcome and Graft Survival

Summary: The study demonstrates that pancreatic implantation prior to kidney implantation in simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation has an impact on the early-post-operative outcomes and survival rates of pancreas grafts, but does not significantly affect kidney graft survival rates.

Leukocyte cell population data from the blood cell analyzer as a predictive marker for severity of acute pancreatitis

Yihui Wang et al.

Summary: This study explored the use of leukocyte cell population data (CPD) as an indicator for early prediction of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). Through extensive analysis, four CPD parameters were identified as having the potential to play a crucial role in the early diagnosis of SAP, with a high sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy. The study suggests that these CPD parameters could be integrated into a predictive system marker for severity of acute pancreatitis.

The prognostic value of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio on the long-term renal survival in patients with IgA nephropathy

Dan Chang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that baseline Platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) was an independent prognostic factor for poor renal survival in patients with Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), especially in female patients or patients with baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) less than 60 mL/min/1.73 m(2). The PLR > 137 group showed significantly higher risk for adverse renal outcomes compared to the other two groups. Subgroup analysis further confirmed the prognostic value of PLR for specific patient populations within the IgAN cohort.
