Urinary Growth Differentiation Factor-15 (GDF15) levels as a biomarker of adverse outcomes and biopsy findings in chronic kidney disease

Maria Vanessa Perez-Gomez et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that urinary GDF15 is associated with kidney histology patterns, mortality, and the need for renal replacement therapy in CKD patients who underwent a kidney biopsy. Furthermore, urinary GDF15 showed better predictive ability compared to serum GDF15 in terms of patient survival and a composite of mortality or kidney replacement therapy.

Pathogenesis, diagnosis and clinical management of diabetic sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy

Summary: This article discusses the latest advances in the mechanisms of DSPN and painful DSPN, as well as the emerging diagnostics and treatments. While our understanding of the disease has come from animal models, effective therapies in preclinical models have not translated into clinical trials. Management of painful DSPN remains suboptimal, but a mechanism-based approach may offer enhanced pain relief.
