MLSA phylogeny and antimicrobial susceptibility of clinical Nocardia isolates: a multicenter retrospective study in China

Ming Wei et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the species distribution and drug susceptibility of 82 clinical Nocardia isolates from three tertiary hospitals in China. Pulmonary nocardiosis was the most common clinical presentation, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole remained highly active against all isolates. High resistance rates were observed for clarithromycin and ciprofloxacin, but N. farcinica showed low resistance to ciprofloxacin.

Local adaptation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis on the Tibetan Plateau

Qingyun Liu et al.

Summary: The study shows that Mycobacterium tuberculosis has adapted and diversified locally in the high-altitude Tibet region after sequential introductions of ancestral strains. Genetic evidence from the Tibetan population suggests unique mutations and positive selection in DNA repair enzymes, indicating adaptation to local environments in Tibet.

Whole genome sequencing reveals the genomic diversity, taxonomic classification, and evolutionary relationships of the genus Nocardia

Shuai Xu et al.

Summary: Nocardia is a complex genus of aerobic actinomycetes with misunderstood clinical presentations, but a study on its pan-genome clarified genetic diversity and proposed a high-accuracy phylogenomic approach leading to the discovery of new species and reclassification of strains. Additionally, a novel locus for inferring phylogeny was identified, enhancing insight into the evolutionary relationships within this genus.

Microbial risk assessment of Nocardia cyriacigeorgica in polluted environments, case of urban rainfall water

Florian Vautrin et al.

Summary: This study assessed the spatio-temporal dynamics of pathogenic Nocardia in Urban Infiltration Basins (UIBs) and found a positive correlation between the presence of pathogenic Nocardia and metallic trace elements. Experimental results showed that these environmental Nocardia in polluted environments may have a similar virulence to clinical strains.
