Quantum electronic coherences by attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy: ab initio B-spline RCS-ADC study

Summary: This study conducts fully ab initio time-resolved investigation on X-ray attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (ATAS) in the polyatomic molecule, pyrazine, demonstrating the potential for detecting quantum ionic coherences and predicting subsequent charge-directed photochemical reactivity. Advanced first-principles many-electron simulations using hybrid XUV pump/X-ray probe setup are employed to study correlated many-electron dynamics. The results show deviations from the sudden approximation picture of photoionization and analyze the impact of multi-channel interaction on the onset of quantum electronic coherences.

Results show the vibronic nature of coherences surviving multiple conical intersection passages for hundreds of femtoseconds at room temperature, providing direct information on electronic and structural dynamics for coherence measurements in organic materials.
