Carbon Nanotube-Based Field-Effect Transistor-Type Sensor with a Sensing Gate for Ppb-Level Formaldehyde Detection

Can Liu et al.

Summary: A novel carbon-based FET-type gas sensor is proposed for highly sensitive and stable formaldehyde detection at ppb levels, showing low detection limits and excellent reproducibility. The use of an independent gas-sensing gate as the sensitive function in the FET-type sensor improves its detection performance.

Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship of Nanowire Adsorption to SO2 Revealed by In Situ TEM Technique

Xueqing Wang et al.

Summary: Based on real-time observations of ZnO nanowires sulfurization processes in SO2 atmosphere using in situ TEM, a quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) is revealed. The ZnO-100 nm nanowires gradually transform into core-shell nanostructures, while sparse nanoparticles are observed on the surface of ZnO-500 nm sample, indicating weak solid-gas interaction with SO2. The QSAR model is validated with adsorption heat data and aberration-corrected TEM characterization, leading to exploration of adsorbing/sensing applications of ZnO nanomaterials.

A smartphone-integrated ratiometric fluorescence sensor for visual detection of cadmium ions

Wenting Li et al.

Summary: A novel fluorescence sensing platform was developed for visual detection of cadmium ions, offering excellent stability and portability. The platform exhibited a wide linear range and sensitive detection limit, with the capability of portable analysis using a smartphone and showing anti-interference activities in complex matrix. Overall, this sensing platform has significant potential for evaluating the quality of marine bivalves polluted with Cd2+.

Sub-10 parts per billion detection of hydrogen with floating gate transistors built on semiconducting carbon nanotube film

Shaoyuan Zhou et al.

Summary: By adopting a floating gate (FG) field-effect-transistor (FET) structure with Y2O3 dielectric layer, the sensitivity and performance of carbon nanotube (CNT) based hydrogen sensors have been significantly enhanced, achieving a detection limit of 90 ppb and even down to 5 ppb at 100 degrees C. FG FET sensors show more than one magnitude enhancement in response compared to conventional resistance-type sensors, with excellent stability and compatibility to CNT integrated circuits, making them a potential platform for developing smart sensors.
