2D/3D Hybrid Cs2AgBiBr6 Double Perovskite Solar Cells: Improved Energy Level Alignment for Higher Contact-Selectivity and Large Open Circuit Voltage

Maximilian T. Sirtl et al.

Summary: The efficiency of lead-free halide perovskite solar cells based on Cs2AgBiBr6 has been limited to less than 3% since 2017 due to factors such as low electron diffusion length and poor selectivity of the contacts. In this study, 2D/3D hybrid double perovskites using phenethyl ammonium were introduced for the first time, resulting in a 10% improvement in efficiency compared to the 3D reference. This improvement is mainly attributed to higher V-OC values and improved recombination behavior and selectivity at the interface.

Ultrafast Excited-State Localization in Cs2AgBiBr6 Double Perovskite

Adam D. Wright et al.

Summary: The study investigates the evolution of photoexcited charge carriers in Cs2AgBiBr6 and reveals rapid localization of free carriers in an intrinsic small polaronic state, induced by strong electron-phonon coupling. Additionally, temperature-activated mobilities and broad emission from color centers were observed, suggesting a complex charge carrier dynamics in the material.

Why are Double Perovskite Iodides so Rare?

Pratap Vishnoi et al.

Summary: This study explores the feasibility of forming double perovskite halides using the Goldschmidt tolerance factor and the radius ratio of trivalent metals. The rarity of double perovskite iodides is rationalized based on these descriptors. Using this model, it is predicted that there may be over 300 unknown double perovskite iodides with various organic and inorganic cations in the A site.

Multifunctional layered hybrid perovskites

Jovana V. Milic

Summary: Layered hybrid perovskites (LHPs) have emerged as attractive materials in optoelectronics due to higher environmental and operational stabilities compared to their metal-halide perovskite analogues. However, the functionality of LHPs is highly dependent on their orientation, making it challenging to control and compromising their performances. Efforts to enhance the functionality of LHPs by introducing semiconductive organic moieties and chiral moieties have led to the development of multifunctional LHPs.

Summary: This study investigated the atomic-level structure of lead-free halide double perovskite alloys using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) techniques, revealing that paramagnetic Fe3+ ions replace diamagnetic In3+ ions in the lattice structure. The formation of [FeCl6](3-)center dot[AgCl6](5-) domains with different sizes and distribution modes was observed in the alloys, providing insights into the bandgap engineering of double perovskites.
