Improvement of anisotropic thermoelectric performance in polycrystalline SnSe by metallic AgSnSe2 compositing

Haojie Huo et al.

Summary: This work introduces a metallic composite, AgSnSe2, to increase the hole concentration of SnSe via metal-semiconductor contact, resulting in a significant enhancement of the thermoelectric performance. The compositing of AgSnSe2 effectively increases the hole concentration of polycrystalline SnSe hosts by two orders of magnitude without deteriorating the carrier mobilities. As a result, a higher power factor and maximum zT value are achieved compared to the uncomposited counterpart. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of composite engineering in optimizing the thermoelectric properties of polycrystalline SnSe.

High-Performance Thermoelectrics Based on Solution-Grown SnSe

Sushmita Chandra et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the progress in the thermoelectric properties of two-dimensional layered tin selenide (SnSe) with a particular emphasis on nanocrystalline SnSe grown in solution. Different solution-phase synthesis procedures to produce various SnSe nanostructures were illustrated, along with the unprecedented thermoelectric figure of merit of CdSe-coated SnSe nanocomposites. In general, nanocrystalline SnSe shows ultralow thermal conductivity due to strong phonon scattering by the nanoscale grain boundaries.
