The number of patients worse than death while waiting for a hip or knee arthroplasty has nearly doubled during the COVID-19 pandemic

N. D. Clement et al.

Summary: The study assessed the quality of life of patients waiting for total hip or knee arthroplasty during the COVID-19 pandemic, finding that longer waiting times were associated with a greater decrease in quality of life. Over one-third of THA patients and nearly one-quarter of KA patients were in a state worse than death, with the main reason for deferring surgery being concerns for health of themselves or family.
