The effect of urban morphology on heat accumulation in urban street canyons and mitigation approach

Mehrdad Karimimoshaver et al.

Summary: The configuration of urban street-canyons, especially the aspect ratios of buildings, plays a crucial role in directing wind flow and affecting air temperature changes and urban heat islands. Studies have found that ratios of H/W=1 and L/W=2 are the most suitable for temperature reduction and UHI control.

An assessment of different courtyard configurations in urban communities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Hanan M. Taleb et al.

Summary: This study aims to optimize the thermal performance of courtyard design in hot arid regions in urban communities. By evaluating different courtyard layouts, it was found that scenario four provided the best microclimatic behavior with reduced relative humidity and temperature. The findings have implications for energy reduction and building footprint reduction in urban planning.
