Beneficial effects of Sc/Zr addition on hypereutectic Al-Ce alloys: Modification of primary phases and precipitation hardening

Jieyun Ye et al.

Summary: This paper investigated the effect of Sc/Zr addition on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and thermal stability of a hypereutectic cast Al-Ce alloy. The results showed that Sc and Zr addition could refine the Al11Ce3 phases and improve the mechanical properties. Furthermore, after thermal exposure, the Sc and Zr atoms formed coherent precipitates, leading to increased hardness at elevated temperatures. Therefore, Al-15Ce-(Sc-Zr) alloys offer potential in high-temperature applications.

Wire arc additive manufacturing Al-5.0 Mg alloy: Microstructures and phase composition

Yanfei Geng et al.

Summary: The factors of microstructure morphology, dislocations densities, and phase composition in wire arc additive manufacture of Al-5.0 Mg products are investigated. It is found that grain size diversity along the deposition direction affects dislocation density and residual stress. Decreasing the intensity of (200) improves homogeneity. The main phases are Al and Al3Mg2, with the formation of Al2Mg and irregular-shaped precipitations.

Deformation behavior and dynamic recrystallization during hot compression in homogenized Al-6Mg-0.8Mn alloys

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, Al6Mn phases with different sizes and morphologies were achieved through homogenization, and the deformation and recrystallization behaviors induced by Al6Mn phases were investigated. The results demonstrated that proper homogenization improved the segregation and dendritic structures in the alloys and obtained Al6Mn phases beneficial for recrystallization.

The effect of Mg and Si content on the microstructure, texture and bendability of Al-Mg-Si alloys

Zhenguo Li et al.

Summary: In this study, four model Al?Mg?Si automotive sheet alloys with different Mg and Si contents were prepared and heat treated to the same T4P temper. The influence of Mg and Si content on microstructure, crystallographic texture, tensile behavior, and bendability was investigated. It was found that increased Mg and Si content led to decreased bendability and the fracture mode was predominately transgranular.

Investigation on microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys with various Zn/Mg ratios

Yan Zou et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of Zn/Mg ratios on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys aged at 150 degrees C. It was found that an increase in Zn/Mg ratios significantly accelerates the aging process, with the co-existence of T' phase and eta' phase beneficial to the high strength of the alloys.

The response of mechanical property to the microstructure variation of an Al-Mg alloy by adding tin element

Bowei Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that adding an appropriate amount of tin (Sn) element can significantly improve the tensile properties of as-cast Al-5Mg alloys, refining the Alpha-Al grains in the alloy and forming Mg2Sn phases. Nano-sized and deformable Mg2Sn phases in the alloy can result in second phase strengthening and crack propagation inhibition effects.

Microstructural and mechanical behavior of Al-Mg-Mn-Sc-Zr alloy subjected to multi-axial forging at room temperature

Hongfeng Huang et al.

Summary: The study showed that the Al-5.5 Mg-0.3Mn-0.28c-0.1Zr alloy experienced inhibited dynamic recrystallization due to the pinning effect of AlxMn and Al-3(Sc, Zr) precipitates, resulting in a significant improvement in mechanical properties at low equivalent strain. At high equivalent strain, dislocation recombination led to the formation of grain boundaries, resulting in a noticeable structure refinement.
