Tailoring microstructure and texture of Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy sheets through curve extrusion process for achieving low planar anisotropy

Jun Xu et al.

Summary: Curve extrusion processes, including symmetric curve extrusion (SCE) and asymmetric curve extrusion (ACE) processes, were proposed to fabricate Mg-3Al-1Zn (AZ31) alloy sheets with the aim of improving planar anisotropy. The microstructures and mechanical properties of the fabricated sheets were analyzed and compared with traditional extrusion (TE) sheets. The results showed that both SCE and ACE sheets exhibited finer grain size, more uniform microstructure, and unique textures, indicating improved planar anisotropy.

Summary: The current study achieved a homogenous ultra-fine grained microstructure in the Mg-Zn-Ca-Mn alloy through reduplicative ECAP, significantly improving mechanical properties. Continuous dynamic recrystallization and activation of non-basal slip system contributed to enhanced grain refinement effect and unique basal texture formation.

Summary: The Mg-2.6Sm-1.3Gd-0.6Zn-0.5Zr (wt.%) alloy was prepared by metal mold casting and hot extrusion, showing an age-hardening response at 200 degrees C with good mechanical properties. The main strengthening mechanisms of the investigated alloy are fine-grain strengthening, solid solution strengthening, and precipitate strengthening.

Tailoring the strength and formability of Mg alloys through rare earth element additions (Gd and Dy) and dynamic recrystallizations

Xin Li et al.

Summary: Research has shown that by adding rare earth elements, the microstructure and mechanical properties of magnesium alloys can be effectively improved, thereby enhancing formability. With the increase of rare earth element additions, the extrusion texture undergoes evolution, and the elongation and strength exhibit contrary trends.
