Taitoko, an advanced code for tsunami propagation, developed at the French Tsunami Warning Centers

P. Heinrich et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new version of operational code used in tsunami warning centers in French Polynesia and mainland France, designed to simulate tsunami propagation through nested grids. The performance of five numerical schemes is evaluated through idealized test cases, showing that standard finite-difference methods reproduce observed time gauges well. Numerical errors associated with these schemes are found to be acceptable, indicating their effectiveness in tsunami early warning systems.

Early forecasting of tsunami inundation from tsunami and geodetic observation data with convolutional neural networks

Fumiyasu Makinoshima et al.

Summary: The proposed tsunami forecasting approach using convolutional neural networks showed excellent performance in numerical experiments for the Tohoku region, with average forecasting errors of approximately 0.4m and 48s for tsunami amplitude and arrival time, respectively. This approach demonstrated the feasibility of AI-enabled tsunami forecasting for providing rapid and accurate early warnings.

Faster Than Real Time Tsunami Warning with Associated Hazard Uncertainties

Daniel Giles et al.

Summary: Tsunamis are unpredictable and pose challenges to the tsunami community. Accurate mathematical/computational modeling is needed for tsunami forecasts and hazard assessments. Warning centres face challenges in delivering accurate forecasts under severe time constraints due to the physical nature of tsunamis.

A new tsunami runup predictor

Martin Wronna et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new parameter TRP to estimate tsunami runup, showing a relationship between TRP and runup for different initial waveforms. Using TRP, past tsunami events' runup can be estimated with promising results when compared to field data, suggesting potential implementation in tsunami early warning systems.
