Ratiometric imaging of extracellular pH in Streptococcus mutans biofilms exposed to different flow velocities and saliva film thicknesses

Mathilde Frost Kristensen et al.

Summary: The study shows that saliva flow velocity, film thickness, and concentration have significant impacts on the pH development in Streptococcus mutans biofilms of different ages. Specifically, stimulated flow and thin saliva film result in higher pH drops in biofilms, while local biofilm thickness plays a role in influencing pH drops particularly in younger biofilms.
