Switching of delta opioid receptor subtypes in central amygdala microcircuits is associated with anxiety states in pain

Wenjie Zhou et al.

Summary: This study indicates that anxiety is linked to different stages of pain, with DOR1 and DOR2 playing distinct roles in modulating excitatory pathways in the CeA. The findings suggest a functional switching of DOR1 and DOR2 associated with anxiety states at different stages of pain.

Emotional Chemobrain: A new concept for chemotherapy adverse drug effect?

R. Bou Khalil

Summary: Emotional chemobrain is a new paradigm that relates alterations in patients' psychological wellbeing to the adverse effects of chemotherapy on the neurobiological level. Disgust, as a negative emotion, may lead to the development of mood and anxiety disorders, and patients undergoing chemotherapy may experience self-disgust due to changes in lifestyle and body as well as the effects of chemotherapy on the brain. The emotional side effects of chemotherapy may involve modifications in brain regions related to emotional elaboration and regulation, and future studies may focus on studying the effect of chemotherapy on brain regions that regulate emotions such as self-disgust.

Central amygdala micro-circuits mediate fear extinction

Nigel Whittle et al.

Summary: Fear extinction involves the reduction of defensive responses following repeated exposure to fear-related stimuli without harm, with recent studies indicating the involvement of central amygdala inhibitory microcircuits in this process. These microcircuits produce reversible, stimulus- and context-specific changes in neuronal responses, absent in cases of deficient extinction, and impair fear extinction when PKC delta neurons are selectively silenced.
