Metagenomic next-generation sequencing for the diagnosis of suspected pneumonia in immunocompromised patients

Jin-Min Peng et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the potential of mNGS for immunocompromised patients with suspected pneumonia and found that while mNGS and CMTs had similar diagnostic accuracy for bacterial and viral infections, mNGS had lower accuracy for fungal infections. The combination of mNGS and CMTs may be the best diagnostic strategy.

Clinical usefulness of metagenomic next-generation sequencing for the diagnosis of central nervous system infection in people living with HIV

Jun Chen et al.

Summary: The clinical utility of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) for diagnosing central nervous system (CNS) infection in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLWH) was evaluated in this study. Results showed that mNGS is a useful tool for diagnosing CNS infection among PLWH and led to modifications in treatment plans for some patients. Further investigations are needed to improve the sensitivity of mNGS in diagnosing CNS infections.
