Urinary specific gravity measures in the US population: Implications for the adjustment of non-persistent chemical urinary biomarker data

Jordan R. Kuiper et al.

Summary: Urinary specific gravity and creatinine are influenced by factors such as gender, race/ethnicity, body mass index, and height. The agreement between correction methods for chemical concentrations using specific gravity was greater compared to creatinine. Additionally, using a covariate-adjusted standardization method for correction showed slightly higher agreement between specific gravity and creatinine-corrected chemical concentrations.

Summary: The study found that prenatal exposure to monoethyl phthalate (mEP) was associated with an increase in ASD symptoms in boys. However, most associations were null, and the sample size limited power to detect associations.

Effect of prenatal exposure to phthalates on epigenome-wide DNA methylations in cord blood and implications for fetal growth: The Hokkaido Study on Environment and Children's Health

Ryu Miura et al.

Summary: Prenatal exposure to phthalates, specifically DEHP, is associated with changes in DNA methylation levels in cord blood, particularly with genes related to metabolism, endocrine system, and signal transduction. These methylation changes are inversely associated with newborns' ponderal index and may mediate the impact of DEHP exposure on fetal growth. Further research is needed to fully understand the predictive value of DNA methylation for offspring obesity.
