Genetic Risk of Alzheimer's Disease and Sleep Duration in Non-Demented Elders

Yue Leng et al.

Summary: Growing evidence suggests an association between sleep duration and Alzheimer's disease. This study found that genetic liability for AD may predict sleep duration, with a higher AD-GRS score associated with shorter sleep, especially in those aged 55 and older. Using AD-GRS as an instrumental variable, incipient AD was found to reduce sleep duration by 1.87 hours.

Association Between Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Its Treatment, and Alzheimer's Disease: Systematic Mini-Review

Chih-Yun Kuo et al.

Summary: Obstructive sleep apnea and Alzheimer's disease are common in the elderly, with OSA possibly increasing AD risk through changes in cerebrospinal fluid protein levels. Further research supports a potential positive effect of OSA treatment on reducing the risk of AD.

Integration of Alzheimer's disease genetics and myeloid genomics identifies disease risk regulatory elements and genes

Gloriia Novikova et al.

Summary: This study integrates Alzheimer's disease (AD) GWAS data with myeloid cell genomics, and reports that myeloid active enhancers are most burdened by AD risk alleles. The authors also nominate candidate causal regulatory elements, variants and genes that likely modulate the risk for AD.

KDM4B Overexpression Promotes the Growth, Migration, and Invasion of Rheumatoid Arthritis Fibroblast-Like Synoviocytes by Activating STAT3 Pathway

Xin Zhang et al.

Summary: In rheumatoid arthritis, overexpression of KDM4B promotes disease progression, while its knockout significantly inhibits the viability and migration of inflammatory synoviocytes, inducing apoptosis. KDM4B affects the growth, migration, and invasion of rheumatoid arthritis synoviocytes by activating the STAT3 signaling pathway, indicating its potential as an effective therapeutic target for the disease.

Decoding signaling pathways involved in prolactin-induced neuroprotection: A review

G. Molina-Salinas et al.

Summary: Prolactin plays a crucial role in neuroprotection against excitotoxicity, although the underlying signaling pathways, such as PI3K/AKT, NF-kappa B, and JAK2/STAT5, remain unclear and require further investigation. Its remarkable neuroprotective effects may hold promise for the treatment of certain neurological diseases.

Testing and correcting for weak and pleiotropic instruments in two-sample multivariable Mendelian randomization

Eleanor Sanderson et al.

Summary: The text introduces a new method for Multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) to address challenges in estimating causal effects. This method uses a conditional F-statistic to test whether genetic variants strongly predict each exposure, allowing for reliable causal effect estimates in the presence of weak instruments and pleiotropy.

Is disrupted sleep a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease? Evidence from a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis

Emma L. Anderson et al.

Summary: The study found limited evidence to support a causal effect of sleep traits on Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk. However, there was suggestive evidence that daytime napping may reduce AD risk. Further replication with independent samples is needed to confirm these findings.
